Should I Find a Pediatrician Before My Baby is Born?
Yes! Before your baby is born, we recommend finding a pediatrician you’re comfortable with. Building a rapport with your child’s pediatrician will help you and your child feel more comfortable during their scheduled check-ups. Brevard Health Alliance has been providing pediatric care for nearly two decades, so we’re confident we’re the right pediatric clinic for you. We can provide newborn patient packets for expectant parents. Please feel free to visit your closest clinic.
Does Every Child Need a Pediatrician?
Yes, every child should see a pediatrician. Your pediatrician will ensure that your child is in good health by diagnosing, preventing, and managing physical and developmental issues. Not only that, they act as a resource for parents by addressing any concerns they may have about their child. Your child’s pediatrician can also recommend a specialist if your child requires one.
How Often Should I Schedule a Visit to the Pediatrician?
Brevard Health Alliance recommends the following schedule for your child’s pediatric care. Newborns should have a wellness check-up at two weeks, one month, two months, four months, six months, nine months, one year, 15 months, 18 months, and two years. After two years, they can have a yearly check-up with their pediatrician until they reach 18 years old. This schedule provides us with the information our pediatricians need to ensure your child is reaching developmental milestones. You can also schedule sick visits whenever you feel it is necessary.
Will My Child Always See the Same Doctor?
At Brevard Health Alliance, we believe that building a relationship with our clients leads to better overall care. Your child’s wellness visit will always be scheduled with your child’s primary care physician barring any unforeseen circumstances. However, we cannot guarantee that your child will see their PCP for after-hour appointments and sick visits. However, we will make every effort to accommodate your needs.
I’m concerned about My Child’s Not Reaching Their Developmental Milestones
Every child develops at their own pace. It’s important not to compare your child’s development to that of their peers. Some children may begin crawling or speaking earlier than other children. Our pediatricians will monitor the development of your newborn, toddler, and grade-school child as they continue to grow to ensure they are reaching their developmental milestones. If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact our office or ask during your child’s next wellness visit.
Will Your Office Refer My Child to a Specialist?
If your child requires a pediatric specialist for speech, vision, hearing, or any number of specialists, our doctors will provide a recommendation. Most insurance companies provide coverage for visits to a pediatric specialist with approval from their pediatrician. However, you may have to pay out-of-pocket for your visit if you don’t have a recommendation from your pediatrician. Consult with our team before seeing a specialist, and we can answer any questions you may have and advise you on the best option for your child.
How Can I Get a Referral?
During your child’s next wellness visit, we advise parents to inform their pediatrician about the condition. If the need for a referral occurs between wellness visits, you can schedule a referral appointment with our office. The referral typically takes about five business days to complete. Once we’ve completed the referral process, we’ll contact you directly.
If My Child Is Sick, Should I Go to the Pediatrician or Hospital?
If your child is running a mild fever, sore throat, or runny nose, you can schedule an appointment with your pediatrician for a sickness check-up. Our doctor may prescribe some medication to reduce the fever or provide pain relief for your child. However, if there is a medical emergency, bring your child to the hospital.
Do You Follow CDC’s Vaccine Schedule?
Yes. Brevard Health Alliance follows CDC’s recommended vaccine schedule for all our patients. Vaccines have been critical in helping to protect, eliminate, or reduce the symptoms of a wide range of preventable diseases, including Polio, Tetanus, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and much more. Not only will immunizations protect your child, but they may also be required to attend certain public schools. Our pediatricians will always consult with you before administering the vaccines.
Why Does My Child Need Vaccinations?
Vaccinations have been used for centuries to help prevent and cure illnesses. They are safe and effective, and we recommend every child stay up-to-date on their vaccination schedule to prevent severe and potentially fatal illnesses. The American Academy of Pediatrics has provided studies that find vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%. Our doctors are available to answer any questions you may have about any vaccines we administer.
What Is Telemedicine?
Through technological advancements, we’re able to provide an accurate diagnosis of your child’s ailment in the convenience of your own home. Telemedicine allows your pediatrician to observe, diagnose, and treat with video conference technology. Telemedicine is convenient for busy parents and entirely confidential and safe. It’s ideal for after-hour visits and emergency services.
Do Telemedicine Visits Cost More?
In addition to being more convenient for patients and children, telemedicine is often more affordable and still covered by many insurances. Once your telemedicine appointment is complete, we will bill your insurance company. Any portion of the fee they don’t cover will be billed directly to you.
What Types of Insurance Do You Accept?
Brevard Health Alliance accepts most commercial health insurance types and Medicaid plans. We know that providing proper healthcare is essential for you and your child. You can find the complete list of insurance types we offer here.
Is Someone Always Available to See My Child?
If your child is sick after regular hours, our team may schedule a visit at one of our after-hours offices. With locations throughout the communities we serve, we’ll make every effort for your child to be seen by a nurse as soon as possible. If your child is experiencing a medical emergency, dial 9-1-1 immediately.
