Health Insurance FAQs - Brevard Health Alliance

A walk-in care, or urgent care center is a medical facility that provides prompt treatment for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. It’s often a more convenient option for conditions requiring immediate attention but not severe enough to warrant a visit to the emergency room. Consider walk-in care for these conditions:

  • Minor sprains and strains
  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Skin rashes
  • Mild respiratory issues (i.e., sore throat)
  • Fever or flu-like symptoms
  • Minor allergic reactions

Walk-in care doesn’t mean less qualified care! At Brevard Health Alliance, you’ll always be seen by experienced healthcare professionals, including board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician’s assistants.

Fortunately, most insurance plans cover walk-in or urgent care visits. However, it’s always best to check with your healthcare insurance plan provider to understand your specific coverage details, including any co-pays or deductibles that may apply.

Healthcare insurance is often filled with jargon and is difficult for most people to understand. “Deductible” is a word you’ll hear all the time, so you want to have a good understanding of what it means. Essentially, a deductible is the amount you pay out-of-pocket for healthcare services before your insurance begins to cover the costs. For example, if your deductible is $500, and your bill is $700, you’ll need to pay $500 of it before your insurance is applied to the rest of your bill.

Co-insurance is another term you’re likely to hear. This refers to a percentage of the cost of healthcare services you pay after you’ve met your deductible. Let’s say after you’ve paid your deductible, you have $200 outstanding for your visit. If your co-insurance is 20%, you’ll pay 20% of the cost of services ($40), while your insurance covers the remaining 80% ($160).

The out-of-pocket maximum is the most you will have to pay for covered healthcare services in a plan year. Once you reach this amount, your insurance will cover 100% of the costs for covered services.

An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is a statement from your insurance company that explains what medical treatments and services were paid for on your behalf. It includes details like the amount billed, the amount covered by your insurance, and any remaining balance you may owe. Our billing team can help you better understand your EOB if you have questions about services you received at Brevard Health Alliance.

A pre-existing condition is any health issue or illness that you had before your current healthcare insurance plan began. Coverage for pre-existing conditions can vary, so it’s important to check your policy details.

In many cases, if your insurance plan requires a referral, you’ll need to obtain one from your primary care physician before visiting a specialist. However, walk-in or urgent care centers can often provide necessary treatment and, if needed, refer you to a specialist based on the evaluation of your condition. Always confirm your insurance requirements beforehand.

We recommend reviewing your healthcare insurance policy to determine if a specific service is covered. You may need to contact your provider directly to get the most detailed information on covered services, exclusions, and any necessary pre-authorization requirements.

This is one of the most common healthcare insurance questions we get. We’re proud to accept many of the area’s largest and most respected healthcare insurance plans. Some of the insurance providers we often work with include:

  • Aetna Medicare
  • Ambetter
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida

  • Medicaid of Florida
  • Sunshine State Child Welfare
  • United Healthcare

Our billing team is more than happy to address your concerns about payment and ensure you adhere to our payment policies. If you cannot pay via insurance for any reason, you’ll need to refer to our . The total amount you’ll pay at Brevard Health Alliance may be discounted based on your income and family size. Reach out to our team for details or download our uninsured patient form.

If your insurance claim is denied, review the denial letter to understand the reasoning. You can then contact your insurance provider for clarification and ask about the appeals process. You are also welcome to reach out to our billing department, as we can often help you address the issue.

A balance bill, also known as a surprise bill, occurs when you receive a bill for the difference between what your insurance pays and what the healthcare provider charges. This most often occurs when you see an out-of-network provider.

If you encounter a balance bill, first verify whether the service was performed by an in-network or out-of-network provider. Contact your insurance company for clarification on coverage and determine whether the charge is valid. You may also reach out to our team to discuss the bill and explore potential payment plans.
